A set of six by the Maria Sibylla Merian (1647–1717) who was a naturalist, an entomologist and a botanical illustrator, aguably the greatest ever botanical artists. Merian is known to be one of the first nauturalists to havevstudied insects, illustrating and recording the life cycle of 186 insect species. These prints are taken from her works in ‘Metamorphosis’ she also paved the way for female scientific exploration as these always had been only men, she insisted on joining regardless of her sex.
